The Top Tennessee Stories of 2015

4. Ending the streak against Georgia

Joshua Dobbs-1

Vol fans were reeling to begin the 2015 season after the Vols started out 2-3 and lost heart-breaking games to Oklahoma and Florida and dropped a lackluster game to Arkansas before the Georgia game. Vol fans were at their lowest point of the season, and after a report surfaced accusing Butch Jones of getting into a physical altercation with a player, fans were outraged and looking for anything good to latch on to.

Then the improbable happened.

After spotting Georgia a 24-3 lead in the first half, the Vols stormed back and took a 31-24 lead in the third quarter. Georgia tied it up early in the fourth, but Tennessee took the lead again with 5:48 left to play. Georgia drove down the field on their last possession, but safety Brian Randolph smacked away the potential game-tying score as time expired, and the Vols emerged victorious 38-31 over the Bulldogs.

Tennessee’s win over Georgia ended a five-game skid against the Bulldogs, and the win couldn’t have come at a better time for the team. Fans were on a very narrow ledge heading into the game, and the victory helped calm the waters and save fans from a potentially devastating season.
