5. Vols roll in Taxslayer Bowl
2015 got off to about as good of a start as it could when the Vols took the football field on January 2nd against Iowa in the Taxslayer Bowl. Tennessee jumped out to an early lead and never looked back, routing the Hawkeyes 45-28 in Tennessee’s first bowl appearance since 2010, giving them their first bowl victory since 2007.
The dominating win over Iowa started off a hype train that ran out of control at times for the Vols this offseason. While the predictions stemming from that win came back to bite the Vols in the long run, it finally launched the Vols into the national spotlight for the first time in half a decade.
Tennessee couldn’t handle the pressure of an offseason of positivity after a big bowl win to start 2015. If the Vols begin 2016 similarly, all eyes will be on them next year to see how they respond this time.
