Status
The Vols took a commitment from Dodge City wide receiver Jeff George over the summer and then added teammate DJ Henderson in mid-September, giving them some depth and options at defensive back going forward. Henderson signed with the Vols on the morning of Dec. 16 and is expected to enroll early and compete for playing time and to provide depth for Tennessee in 2016. Henderson, who will be a junior in 2016, finished his junior college season with 47 tackles, two interceptions and 11 pass break-ups.

How He Fits
Henderson has been flying under the radar a bit in recruiting circles, but has been on UT’s list of targets and the Vols saw enough from him over the summer and earliy in the 2015 JUCO season that they decided to make the offer and then landed him.
He plays primarily corner in his film, though he can play safety as well. You have to think the Vols are continuing to think more and more about life after Cam Sutton as the junior cornerback may not stick around for a fourth year of eligibility. Tennessee’s also shown a few concerns early in the 2015 season in terms of cornerback depth and is clearly looking for more depth at this position. Henderson is a nice combination of size, physicality and pure cover skills that should be an asset to the Vols as soon as 2016.
