Tennessee gained a berth in the Outback Bowl on Sunday evening, but also lost part of the 2016 class. Leeds, Ala., athlete TaDarryl “TD” Marshall announced via Twitter that UT pulled his scholarship offer, leading him to decommit from the Vols after originally pledging to them in April.

Marshall’s tweet is a reminder of the “business” side of recruiting that exists, especially at the SEC level. According to his his side of the story, he appears to be a numbers casualty as UT only has limited space in this class as Butch Jones looks to finish off another top-10 caliber recruiting class over the next couple months.
The three-star athlete plays quarterback for his high school team and just led it to a state title. He is projected as either a receiver or defensive back at the college level and has offers from Alabama, Auburn, Missouri and approximately a dozen other teams, according to his 247Sports profile.
