RTI’s Final SEC Regular Season Power Rankings

Questionable at Best

2. Florida (10-2, 7-1)
They’re the only team in this section because they defy explanation. Sure, their defense is nasty, but a back up quarterback and a patchwork O-line both contributed to an offense that simply isn’t very good. How did they lose only one game in the SEC? How did they lost only two games all year? How did they beat the DOG out of Ole Miss? And, perhaps most perplexing of all, how in the world are they the second best team in this conference?

The Gators’ offense scored a mere 9 points against Vanderbilt, just 20 against lowly Florida Atlantic and was outscored by their defense in their pathetic two-point effort against the Seminoles. We would have ranked them below Ole Miss, but it’s impossible to defend given the overall records and the result when the two teams met in the Swamp.

Not You Again

1. Alabama (11-1, 7-1)
And there you have it. The Crimson Tide, once again, is the best team in the SEC. Of course, they have to prove it in Atlanta this weekend, but odds are they’ll do just that.

Even so, I’m not so sure I’d run off and bet them to win it all. The SEC was down this year. If you don’t believe me, ask the Citadel. Or Toledo. Or Memphis. Or Texas Tech. Or Jacksonville State. Or Florida Atlantic. Or Georgia Southern. Or Jacksonville State.

So while Alabama’s an undeniably talented team, they rose to the top in a conference that had its fair share of issues. It will be interesting to see how it plays out on a national level, but this is how it’s played out on a regional one.

Enjoy the conference championships.
