See What Had Happened Was…
10. Auburn (6-6, 2-6)
If you kept waiting for the Auburn Tigers to turn it around, you weren’t alone. But that early-season close call against Jacksonville State turned out to be who the Tigers really were. The team picked by many to win the SEC narrowly avoided the Astonishingly Awful category.
9. Georgia (9-3, 5-3)
A team that should have competed for the East, if not won it outright, finds itself firing its longtime coach. But I, for one, think it’s lame that a coach can get fired coming off of 19 wins in the prior two seasons. Twenty if they win their bowl game. That all happened while losing their best player to injury for significant stretches of both of those campaigns. People who want to compare the situation to Fulmer’s? I get it and there are striking similarities. Except Richt hasn’t had two losing seasons in his prior four. He’s won 12, 8, 10 with the chance for another 10 this year. That’s an average of 10 Ws per year for nearly a half decade. In the toughest conference in the nation.
Good luck, Kirby. You’re gonna need it down there.
