Report Card: Tennessee 53, Vanderbilt 28

defense-1

 Linebackers

It was no secret that Vanderbilt running back Ralph Webb was the biggest threat for the Commodores coming into the game, and the Vols didn’t do a very good job of keying on him and limiting big plays. He ran for his second-longest rush of the season in the first half on a 50-yard scamper and finished the game with 21 carries for 149 yards. That’s not all on the linebackers, but it did seem that the defensive front wasn’t as set and aggressive, especially in the first half, as it has been in recent games. Some of that definitely falls on the LBs. Jalen Reeves-Maybin and Darrin Kirkland Jr. combined for just six tackles, though JRM did add a sack to help the stat line. Kenny Bynum and Austin Smith also got some work when the Vols went to the 4-3.
