Grading the Vols’ 53-28 win over Vanderbilt on Saturday night.
Secondary
Vanderbilt quarterback Kyle Shurmur did throw for a season-high total of 209 yards and three touchdowns, but it’s tough to knock the Vols’ secondary for about half of that since it came in the fourth quarter with the game clearly in hand and backups on the field. Vanderbilt, which came into this game with one of the worst passing offenses in the nation, found a little bit more success through the air than many anticipated, but UT’s secondary, despite a few flaws, generally played pretty well through three quarters. Todd Kelly Jr. had a nice interception before halftime to preserve UT’s 13-point lead heading into the break – recording his second interception in as many years against the Commodores.
