This was one of the few downfield passes thrown by either team all night, and it was a first down for the Vols on a 3rd and 9. It’s worth noting that instead of checking down to the receiver running the crossing route in front of the sticks, Dobbs looks down field and spies Josh Malone free from his defender and behind the only other defender in the area. In a game that saw the Vols throw behind the first down marker plenty of times and come up short, this was a bright spot.
