For the second time in two weeks, it just felt like the Vols didn’t have a ton of energy for 60 minutes and didn’t get as much out of their players as the opposing coach did, even though they were able to win both games. Few doubt this staff’s ability to recruit, promote, put in a good gameplan and then get the players to execute early. Keeping the pedal down for the whole game and making the necessary adjustments continue to be points of concern though.
Big-picture, Butch Jones did become the first UT coach to be bowl eligible two years in a row since Phillip Fulmer did it in 2006-07. So while there are questions, there are also very tangible signs of improvement for the program.
