Evan Berry Named SEC Special Teams Player of the Week

Tennessee sophomore Evan Berry has been named the SEC’s Special Teams Player of the Week after he returned a kickoff 100+ yards for a touchdown at Kentucky on Saturday.

That was Berry’s third kickoff return for a touchdown in 2015. Berry now leads the NCAA in both kickoff returns for TDs this season and average per return (42.56 yards per return). The next closest, according to CFBStats.com, is San Diego State’s Rashaad Perry at 34.31 yards per return.

“He had that look in his eye,” Butch Jones said of Berry, who only got one kickoff return against the Wildcats. “He was going to bring it out regardless. We have a lot of confidence in him and our entire kickoff return unit. We invest so much time in that and every time we go out on the field to return a kick, whether it’s punt return or kickoff return, everyone on our sideline expects a big play.”
