Checking The Film: A Closer Look at Tennessee’s 38-31 Win Over UGA

4th Quarter:

Emmanuel Moseley gets beat deep on the first play of the 4th quarter (I’ll spare you the video) while playing man-off coverage. He starts the play 8 yards away from his defender and gets beat over the top. This shouldn’t happen. He has to turn his hips and start running with the receiver sooner. In fairness, Reggie Davis is a fine receiver, but Moseley has to know better.

14:22: Dobbs with a nice stiff-arm and moon-step for a first down.

8:13: The Vols have run quick-screens all day to Jennings, Williams, Malone and Smith, but now they fake it and open up some routes down the field. He throws it to Wolf because, in theory, Jennings should be blocking for Wolf as soon as he catches the football. But, freshman mistake, Jennings forgets to block because he was expecting the football. Otherwise, this is a touchdown. Still a great play and a great time to call it.

7:14: Georgia literally does not cover Alex Ellis.

5:54: Vols take the lead after, perhaps, their best drive of the season.

5:48: Ensuing kickoff…McDowell is ready to roll.

4:00: Sometimes it’s better to be lucky.

1:58: Butch Jones elects to punt on 4th & 1 and Trevor Daniel hits what may indeed be the finest punt in Tennessee Football History.

Todd Kelly Jr. has a chance to end the game on Georgia’s final drive, but can’t quite haul in the pass from Greyson Lambert. (Boy, was it close, though.)

Brian Randolph is the deep safety here and his job is to read Lambert’s eyes and follow the football. Needless to say, he does his job perfectly and the Vols go home winners.
