 Receivers/Tight Ends

A passing game that had been a punch line the past few weeks took a nice step forward on Saturday. The receivers and tight ends combined for 17 catches for 266 yards. The receivers, the group that had been taking the most heat, stepped up with 12 catches for 179 yards. Juxtapose that with this group’s performance at Florida just a few weeks ago (2 catches, 7 yards), and you can see the clear progress. Josh Malone, in particular, emerged as a more consistent threat, leading the team with five catches for 60 yards. Others such as Ethan Wolf, Preston Williams and Josh Smith picked their spots for some big plays to help this offense out. There were a few drops and plays they’d like to have back, but this was a much-needed improved performance at this spot.
