Coaching
This game didn’t feature the egregious coaching errors that we saw against Oklahoma and Florida, but there were still numerous issues to point towards. Why was Joshua Dobbs not utilized as a runner? Why did the Vols get conservative on offense before halftime AGAIN? Why does Jalen Hurd only get four rushes after halftime after getting 15 for 89 yards in the first half? Why can this team not play with a two-score lead? Will this staff ever make adjustments at halftime?
Also, I think it’s fair to ask at this point if Butch Jones has lost this team? They looked completely unmotivated last night after halftime and never once looked like they were actually having fun. Those are both byproducts of coaching. This staff continues to coach as if they are relying solely on their system instead of the dynamic playmakers they have on both side of the football, favoring X’s and O’s over having the best players on the field. They have proven too stubborn to admit failures and adjust time after time, and last night was no exception. Arkansas’ staff found out ways to beat what Tennessee was doing, and the Vol coaching staff failed to counter.
