2nd quarter
13:28: For two plays in a row, Cam Sutton is playing way off the line, and twice Florida makes quick throws to his side to pick up the first down after those two plays. Not sure the rationale behind such soft coverage with one of the best cover corners in the league, but the Gators took advantage of it here.
12:24: The Vols put seven in the box on third and short and Derek Barnett, Corey Vereen and Darrin Kirkland Jr. team up to crunch Grier on the QB keeper to force another punt. Tennessee’s defense is in a pretty good rhythm at this point after coming out a bit sluggish.

11:44: Another athletic play by Dobbs here, running the ball out near midfield after the Vols took over deep in their own territory. Credit Jashon Robertson with a nice pull and kick-out and Ethan Wolf for a nice downfield block to help spring Dobbs for the big gainer of 29 yards.

9:39: Butch Jones and Mike DeBord dial up another beautiful first-half trick play, this time bringing Alvin Kamara in on 4th and 2 and having him take the handoff and then execute the jump pass to Ethan Wolf for the first down and nice gain. Wolf did a nice job of faking a quick block and then slipping out for the reception. Jones has had this one ins his playbook since at least his Cincinnati days, maybe longer, and found a great time to use it here.

9:18: Crazy play here as Dobbs keeps it, goes around right end for a big gain, but loses the football and it goes bouncing towards the pylon. It appears that Alex Ellis was able to scoop it up before it hits the pylon or goes out of bounds (both would’ve led to a touchback and Florida ball). But the real impressive thing UT does here is sprints to the line and gets another snap off before Florida can get a good look at it, preventing the challenge and assuring that the Vols would keep possession. After several looks at it, however, it looks like it would’ve been Tennessee’s ball regardless because it went out of bounds short of the goal line. Nice hustle from Alex Ellis to get his hands on it and redirect it from going into the end zone or hitting the pylon.
8:23: The o-line gets a nice push and Hurd just runs up their back, pushes the pile and powers into the end zone for UT’s second TD of the day.

6:35: This marks the first time the Vols use a timeout on fourth down with a Florida punting or kicking unit on the field, only to give the Gators time to think it over, draw up a play and convert the first down. From my count, at least from what’s in the screen, there are only 10 Vols on the field in this particular instance, so that’s likely why Tennessee chose to call a timeout. It comes back to hurt them none-the-less. The Gators draw up a nice rollout pass, convert and move into UT territory on the play. It looks like freshman linebacker Austin Smith gets faked out and loses his man on this play.

5:33: Fantastic run by Dobbs on this play for 62 yards. Coleman Thomas is able to chop down a Florida defender on the second level to get Dobbs loose, but it’s his spin move on potential All-SEC linebacker Antonio Morrison that really gets him going. Then it’s just speed down the sideline and good hustle by UT players getting downfield to help escort him for the huge gain well into Florida territory.

3:16: Aaron Medley gets the Vols three points here after they couldn’t get another first down following Dobbs’ long run. Despite the miss on the incredibly long one at the end of the game, Medley has to leave The Swamp with a little bit more confidence after a shaky start to the season.
Kick is good for Medley, his longest make of the year (34 yards). https://t.co/Fz45JEeOOr

1:23: Florida moves the ball with relative ease into Tennessee territory, but either a misread or just a poor throw by Grier lands in LaDarrell McNeil’s hands for a big interception that keeps the Gators off the board again in the first half. Tennessee would go three and out after this, but a nice punt by Trevor Daniel made sure the Gators wouldn’t be able to mount another serious drive in this half and the Vols take it to halftime 17-7.
