Quarterbacks
The coaches clearly wanted to build confidence in Joshua Dobbs after a tough week against Oklahoma and did so early – getting the ball out of his hand quickly on the way to a 12-of-13 start passing. He finished the evening 15-of-21 for 144 yards, two touchdowns and no interceptions. He did some good things, but missed a few opportunities as well. He hit a couple passes down the field, but that part of the offense seems to remain a work in progress. Future opponents are still going to look to limit UT’s rushing attack, blitz Dobbs, contain him and then see if he can find open receivers against tight coverage. Quinten Dormady looked sharp in relief, completing 6-of-8 passes for 93 yards, including a couple nice throws to Preston Williams, one for a touchdown. He looks like a very competent backup QB who would be ready to go should the Vols need him more at any point this season.
