Western Carolina-9

 Linebackers

Jalen Reeves-Maybin got some well-deserved rest in the second half of this one after playing lights out the first couple of games. Darrin Kirkland Jr. made his first career start and showed some good things athletically – though he looked a touch anxious a few times, overrunning outside leverage on a couple occasions and missing a few other opportunities. All-in-all though, he looks like an upgrade at that unstable MLB spot and will likely hold onto that job indefinitely. Outside of a couple long runs by Detrez Newsome, the linebackers kept WCU in front of them for much of the night and never let the Catamounts threaten too much. Cortez McDowell, Dillon Bates and Colton Jumper were among the players who got a lot of reps in the second half.
