4. Tempo
Personally, I’m more of a pro-style, control the clock and take your time kind of guy. But that’s not at all how Butch Jones likes to play and it’s his team, so he’s the boss.
That being said, Tennessee has done a great job so far of running the up-tempo offense that Jones prefers. Between the Bowling Green and Oklahoma games, the Vols ran a play about every 22 seconds, but that’s been with a home crowd where noise hasn’t been much of an issue.
As the Vols head to hostile Gainesville next week, Tennessee needs to use this game against Western Carolina to make sure their tempo stays top-notch and continues to be a strength. Otherwise Florida’s defense will capitalize and potentially extend their winning streak to 11 games in that series.
