Any time a walk-on earns a starting job two things come to mind. 1. The kid must be kicking butt in practice and 2. The team must really have some questions at that position.

Hey, I’m happy for Colton Jumper. But there is still very little consistency at the middle linebacker position. And after the departure of AJ Johnson last season, the challenge to find his replacement has been more than a little hiccup in the Vols defensive woes. With true freshman Darrin Kirkland Jr. getting his first start this week, at least if we’re to believe the depth chart, Vol fans might get a closer look at the next great Tennessee middle linebacker. And if all goes well, Tennessee should be able to work on establishing who their “defensive QB” is going to be moving forward.
