1. Sacking the quarterback
By my count the Tennessee Vols defense had about 157 missed tackles on Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield.
Okay, okay, maybe that’s an exaggeration. But the point here is Mayfield got away far too often when he should have been sacked. Vols defense end Derek Barnett said Mayfield was a “savvy” quarterback, and to his credit, Mayfield did do a great job escaping pressure. Nonetheless, when you have a quarterback pinned against the wall like they often did, you have to capitalize. Since live tackling isn’t worked on as much in practice to avoid injuries, Tennessee needs to use this game to practice a live pass rush finished with a sack.
