Receivers/Tight Ends
Very uninspiring performance by this group. Tennessee’s receiving corps looks like a million dollars on the field, but haven’t played worth a dime in big games against defenses who play press coverage. Von Pearson, Marquez North and Pig Howard (last year’s starters at WR) combined for just two catches for 17 yards. Josh Smith was able to get free a few times and finished with four catches for 56 yards, and Josh Malone added a touchdown catch, but this group – once again – lacks leadership and a true go-to receiver. Ethan Wolf was practically non-existent after last week’s two touchdown performance and Alex Ellis dropped a would-be touchdown in the third quarter that would have likely put the game out of reach.
