Overall
This was set up to be a signature win for Butch Jones and an early-season momentum boost for a young Tennessee team that is clearly trending in the right direction. Instead, Tennessee fans were forced to once again watch a movie that has been on repeat for nearly a decade. Tennessee had never owned a 17-point lead in Neyland Stadium and gone on to lose the football game…until last night. The early lead appeared to force Tennessee to scrap the game plan and go to a much more conservative style of offense which played right into the hands of what Oklahoma was trying to do defensively. There were missed opportunities in every phase of the game – any one of which could have been the difference in the final outcome.
The season is FAR from over, but last night was about as bad as it gets.
