Running Backs
The CMG, Thunder and Lightning or whatever you want to call Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara – these guys are good. The Vols had their first game with two 100-yard rushers since 2009 and this duo ran fast and angry. Kamara showed why he was a top recruit, ripping off a 56-yard TD run in the second half that essentially ended any chance of a Bowling Green comeback. That was the best moment in a solid performance that included 15 carries for 144 yards and two TDs. Hurd got the tougher yards, angrily running through tackles on his way to 23 carries for 123 yards and three TDs. Pass protection was solid too and even third-string back John Kelly showed some promise with eight carries for 29 yards in mop-up duty. Tougher challenges await, but if Kamara and Hurd run like that, the Vols will pile up some rushing yards this year.
