Pick 6: SEC Against the Spread – Week 1

No. 15 Arizona State at Texas A&M (-3), Saturday, 7 pm ET, ESPN (Houston, Tex.)

Kevin: What a ridiculous game this is going to be, and one of the two or three i’m most excited to watch this Saturday. I think Texas A&M is going to run a gigantic train through Arizona State, and it won’t be close. Arizona State is talented, no doubt but they’ll be working a new QB in and lost most of their pass rush from last season. With almost no success to point to against SEC teams in the past decade or so, Arizona State typically finds themselves physically overpowered against teams from Dixie and unable to work its offense. John Chavis takes over the reigns of the defense for the Aggies, giving A&M two of the best minds in the game at their respective side of the ball in Sumlin and Chavis. The crowd will be heavily in favor of A&M, and the Aggies will be too much for Todd Graham’s ASU squad to handle. Take Texas A&M -3.5.

John: Alas, we agree. Back in the day when I used to gamble for real, my friends and I subscribed to a “theory.” And I’m here to tell you, the theory worked at least 65% of the time. And the theory is this: ALWAYS take a college team who’s (a) favored by three or fewer points while (b) playing at home against (c) a higher ranked opponent. This is a theory game. It’s that simple. That’s why lay the points and bet on Sumlin’s boys.
