7. There’s plenty of speed in the offensive backfield

Butch Jones made this observation after the first day of practice, and everything we’ve seen backs it up. The Vols have a slightly different level of speed and athleticism in the backfield this year. It starts with running back Jalen Hurd, who hasn’t lost a step at 242 pounds, and Alvin Kamara, who continues to look explosive. Those two will carry the load as long as they’re healthy, but there’s some help back there. Cincinnati transfer RB Ralph David Abernathy IV has shown some explosion and freshman RBs John Kelly and Joe Young look the part as well. Add in some athletic quarterbacks, and defenses will have a lot to think about in 2015 when facing the Vols.
