8. UT has a chance to have a top-tier defense in the East
It’s difficult to say exactly where UT’s defense will stack up in the East, but the Vols certainly have a chance to have one of the better ones in the division. Tennessee finished fourth in the East in total defense in 2014, but were very close to Florida, Georgia and Missouri.
There’s a good chance Florida and Missouri take a step back on defense due to some personnel losses and new coaches on that side of the ball. Georgia could as well, though the Bulldogs do return several key players. Tennessee, primarily, needs to replace A.J. Johnson, but most everybody else is back in addition to some extremely talented newcomers. The Vols should be at – or at least near – the top of the division in defense.
