9. Sumlin couldn’t beat Chavis, so he hired him
After three straight losses to LSU where the Aggies averaged just 15.3 ppg against the John Chavis-led Tiger defense, Sumlin went with the old, “If you can’t beat him, hire him,” approach. The Aggies have loads of potential on offense in particular, and Sumlin hopes that the veteran defensive coordinator can fix what was a subpar defense in 2014. If he can, the Aggies certainly have a chance to get back in the SEC West picture. If not, Sumlin could be in trouble after going the wrong direction in the win column for the past two years.
