HOOVER, Ala. – Steve Spurrier is the King of SEC Media Days – known for his equally entertaining and sometimes pointed remarks that he makes during his annual appearance.
It took him all of five minutes upon taking the podium in Hoover to take some subtle jabs at Tennessee and Arkansas.
“We were 7-6, same as Tennessee, same as Arkansas and I think they’re sort of celebrating big seasons,” Spurrier said, implying that UT and Arkansas are getting a lot more credit for their seven wins than South Carolina is.
Of course, there are reasons for that. The Vols and Razorbacks are widely viewed as teams on the rise, while South Carolina, picked to win the East in 2014, fell well short of expectations and lost several talented players from the 2014 team as well. That didn’t stop Spurrier from making him comments, however, because King Spurrier says what he wants at the podium. Tennessee fans, of course, have been quick to point out that even though they finished with the same record as SC, Spurrier is 0-2 against Butch Jones so far.
