Vols Given 8/1 Odds to Win the SEC

Joshua Dobbs-4Sportsbook operator CG Technology released its college football conference championship odds on Monday, and Tennessee has decent odds at 8/1 – tying for fourth in the league with LSU and Ole Miss and trailing only Alabama, Auburn and Georgia.

That’s an impressive vote of confidence for the up-and-coming Vols after they haven’t won more than three conference games in any given season since 2009. The Vols also haven’t played in the SEC Championship Game since 2007, and haven’t won the conference since 1998.

Full SEC odds:

Alabama: 5-2
Auburn 15-4
Georgia: 5-1
LSU: 8-1
Ole Miss: 8-1
Tennessee: 8-1
Arkansas: 10-1
Missouri: 12-1
Mississipi State: 12-1
Texas A&M: 15-1
Florida: 18-1
South Carolina: 25-1
Kentucky: 75-1
Vanderbilt: 100-1

As you can see, it’s a pretty tight race for about the first 12 spots – reflecting the fact that there are several strong teams in the SEC, but not one runaway favorite this year. There’s a significant drop off after that with Kentucky and Vanderbilt given virtually no chance by these oddsmakers.

The Vols are young and unproven to an extent, but oddsmakers continue to give them a fair shot at being a breakout team in 2015.
