Friday Top 10: Summer Goals for Tennessee

Crush SEC Media Days

Butch Jones-7

This one is simple. As we mentioned in the opening slide, Tennessee football must now deal with real expectations for the first time since Phillip Fulmer was leading the Vols through the  ‘T’ to start the season. Butch Jones and three chosen players will head to Hoover, Alabama on Tuesday, July 14 to address local and national media at SEC Media Days, and you can be certain that questions about expectations and competing for championships will be thrown at both Jones and his players.

In order to crush their appearance in Hoover, Butch and his team need to keep things simple.

Own it.

Own the expectations, embrace the expectations, and don’t shy away from the expectations. I think the coaches – and most logical fans – would admit that this team still has some holes in the lineup and lacks the quality depth that it generally takes to consistently compete for SEC division championships. But it’s time to also admit that the talent exists on this roster be be competitive and have a chance to win every game on the schedule. This team and program is ahead of schedule on the rebuild and is ready to start competing for a division crowns…it’s time to act like it.
