Top 10 SEC Heisman Contenders

6. Joshua Dobbs, QB Tennessee

Joshua Dobbs-2I was surpised to see Dobbs left off the recent Bovada odds, especially since he was given the 13th-best odds in the nation back in February by 5Dimes.

Regardless, I think he’s the next best candidate outside of that elite core of five in the SEC this year. It’s mostly based on potential since his career numbers don’t jump off the page to this point – he does, after all, have more career interceptions than touchdowns. But he made a huge jump in 2014 and looked like an All-American against South Carolina, Kentucky, Iowa and during portions of the Alabama game. His athleticism is unquestioned after some huge runs, and he’s made enough throws to show that he’s plenty capable in that area too.

There are a ton of questions that must be answered though. Will Tennessee be nationally relevant in 2015? Can the offensive line protect him enough? Can he iron out a few inconsistencies in the passing game? If the answer to those questions is yes, then he’s a dark horse to keep an eye on.

Bovada Odds: N/A
