7. Kyle Allen/Kyler Murray, Texas A&M QBs
Speaking of dark horses, here’s another big one. And I shouldn’t say one because it could be one of two – namely whoever wins Texas A&M’s starting quarterback gig. Is this a stretch? Yes. But maybe not as much as you think. A&M coach Kevin Sumlin, after all, has a history of producing quarterbacks with huge numbers and even a young Heisman winner in Johnny Manziel (2012).
And if you think Manziel was electric, watch incoming freshman Kyler Murray’s high school film. But Murray will have to wrestle the starting job away from Kyle Allen, who was the top-ranked pro-style passer coming out of high school in 2014 and got some starting experience last year. Once he settled in, he passed for 952 yards and 12 touchdowns over the last four games of the season.
The Aggie QBs have some of the same questions in terms of if their team will be nationally relevant and if they can be consistent for a whole season, but keep an eye on this spot.
