2. Derrick Henry, RB Alabama
Sticking with the best player on the best team theory, Alabama is another potential playoff team, and the Tide should be leaning heavily on Henry this year. I say “should” because I thought offensive coordinator Lane Kiffin was too quick to go away from him at times last year, particularly in the playoff loss to Ohio State.
But if he wises up, he’ll hand that ball to the 6-foot-3, 242-pound bowling ball in 2015 early and often as Alabama breaks in a new quarterback and replaces stud receiver Amari Cooper. Even splitting carries with T.J. Yeldon last year, Henry still piled up 990 rushing yards, 11 touchdowns and a 5.8 yards-per-carry average. Alabama will still use multiple backs, but Henry should see the bulk of the carries, and his numbers should soar upwards. If he gets Alabama back to the playoffs and puts up huge numbers in the process, expect him to be in New York.
Bovada Odds: 16/1
