For all its complexities, the Heisman can also be a pretty simple award. Often the best player on the best team will be right in the hunt (all the better if he is a quarterback, history says), and I think Auburn has a good chance to be a playoff team and possible semi-dark horse national championship team. Big numbers are pretty much a given in Gus Malzahn’s system, and I liked what I saw from Johnson in limited action in 2014.

He’s more of a true passer than Nick Marshall was last year, but still has the athleticism to bring that aspect to Malzahn’s power spread offense. I don’t think Johnson is the best player in the SEC, but at this point I think he might have the best chance at the Heisman in the conference.

Bovada Odds: 20/1
