Friday Top 10: SEC Heisman Contenders

9. Jalen Hurd, RB Tennessee

Jalen HUrd-1-20

Hurd faces many of the same challenges as Dobbs – a suspect offensive line and playing for a team that hasn’t shown it can be a championship contender yet. But he showed elite flashes in 2014 as a true freshman and takes over as the unquestioned starter in 2015 after splitting that title with Marlin Lane early last year.

But speaking of splitting carries, five-star running back and junior college transfer Alvin Kamara should take some from Hurd, but that’s about all the Vols have on the roster at this point. Hurd finished with 899 yards as a true freshman, but would likely need to close to double those numbers to be seriously in the hunt. The last running back to win it, Mark Ingram in 2009, had nearly 1,700 yards, so it’ll take a huge season and a breakout year for the Vols to put Hurd in consideration.

Bovada Odds: 66/1
