7. Schedule Successes
Barnes isn’t afraid of a challenging non-conference schedule. That’s good news for Vol fans, the SEC’s RPI and Tennessee’s tournament resume. Since Barnes’ hire, the Vols have all but finalized two neutral site games with Gonzaga. That’s the same Gonzaga team who earned a No. 2 seed and advanced to the Elite Eight last year. The Vols will travel to Seattle to play the Zags sometime in December and Gonzaga will play a return game in Nashville next season.
A four year series with Georgia Tech is also in the works – with two games being played in Knoxville and two in Atlanta. Tennessee’s exposure nationally and in Atlanta and Nashville, two recruiting hotbeds, is set to increase under Barnes.
