10. Unites Fanbase, Handles Tech Issues
Perhaps no hire in recent history united the fanbase like the Barnes hire. His impressive resume, likable demeanor, ties to Tennessee and the South and his well known ability to recruit made Vol fans quickly embrace him. The Vols finally had “their guy” in Barnes. Yet, in perhaps the most Tennessee thing ever, almost no one heard what Barnes said during his opening press conference due to mic issues.
The few words people did hear painted Barnes as a fantastic fit. Though this may seem small, he never got flustered despite constant mic problems. His ability to handle himself with grace only helped endear him to Vol fans and back up the excellent reputation he has as a coach and person.
