Backfield
Daniel:
QB: 1. Joshua Dobbs 2. Quinten Dormady
RB: 1. Jalen Hurd 2. Alvin Kamara
Thoughts: Pretty simple at running back, in my opinion. The Vols will use these two as much as possible, while trying to keep them healthy because depth is extremely limited. Dobbs is the obvious choice at starting quarterback, and I’m keeping Dormady as the backup because he showed that he’s well ahead of Jauan Jennings as a passer. Sheriron Jones will have a say in that this summer, but I think Dormady wins out.
Houston:
QB: 1. Joshua Dobbs 2. Quinten Dormady
RB: 1. Jalen Hurd/Alvin Kamara
Thoughts: This one went as predicted at quarterback, while Alvin Kamara proved that he will get starter-level touches regardless of who actually starts at running back. Tennessee-s 1-2 punch at the position will be among the best in the country, but they’ll need a player or two to emerge over the summer to proved some depth and help the coaches keep the ‘Chain Moving Gang’ healthy.
Reed:
QB: 1. Joshua Dobbs 2. Quinten Dormady
RB: 1. Jalen Hurd 2. Alvin Kamara
Thoughts: Quinten Dormady’s performance this spring was huge. He made some NFL-level throws, was accurate on the run and solid with his reads in the limited live 11-on-11 and 7-on-7 portions of practice we saw. He enters the summer with a firm lead on the No. 2 QB job. Joshua Dobbs took steps forward from a consistency and accuracy standpoint and certainly looked like one of the better QBs in the SEC. At running back, Hurd was a step or two quicker and Kamara made several eye-popping plays. The two deep here looks very, very good for Tennessee.
