Secondary
Daniel:
S: 1. Brian Randolph 2. Evan Berry
S: 1. LaDarrell McNeil 2. Todd Kelly Jr.
CB: 1. Cam Sutton 2. Malik Foreman
CB: 1. Emmanuel Moseley 2. Justin Martin
NB: 1. Rashaan Gaulden 2. Devaun Swafford
Thoughts: Despite the good things Berry and TK showed this spring, I still think they’re set to go with the veteran duo of Randolph and McNeil at safety, though I expect the backups to get plenty of situational work and to keep pushing. Sutton is a lock at one corner, and I thought, despite having mono, Moseley did enough to be the leader in the clubhouse at the other corner spot. It will be interesting to see if Martin or any other newcomer snatches that from him. I think Gaulden will be the nickel if he can stay healthy.
Houston:
S: 1. Brian Randolph 2. Evan Berry
S: 1. LaDarrell McNeil 2. Todd Kelly Jr.
CB: 1. Cam Sutton 2. Malik Foreman
CB: 1.Emmanuel Moseley 2. Justin Martin
NB: 1. Rashaan Gaulden 2. Micah Abernathy
Thoughts: Hard not to feel good about the group listed above. Evan Berry and TKJ each had solid springs and made the case for more significant playing time in the fall, but Randolph and McNeil will likely be the first two guys to take the field at safety when the season starts. Cam Sutton did Cam Sutton things over the spring and is easily one of the best cornerbacks in the SEC, while Emmanuel Moseley really looked like an improved player after returning from his absence due to mononucleosis. Rashaan Gaulden is the man to beat at corner, but injuries continue to plague the rising sophomore.
Reed:
S: 1. Brian Randolph. 2. Evan Berry
S: 1.LaDarrell McNeil 2. Todd Kelly Jr.
CB: 1. Cam Sutton 2. Malik Foreman
CB: 1. Emmanuel Moseley 2. Justin Martin
NB: Rashaan Gaulden. 2. Micah Abernathy
Thoughts: The secondary as a whole had a fantastic spring. Emmanuel Moseley didn’t miss a beat after missing time with mono. He looks much more confident and physical than last season. He did enough to go into fall camp as the presumed starter opposite Sutton. Todd Kelly Jr. and Evan Berry took some leaps forward during the spring as well, but it may not be enough for them to overtake their more senior compadres. Look for them to find their way onto the field in dime packages perhaps. Rashaan Gaulden, even with an injured hand, did enough to emerge as the leader for the nickel position. The Vols also have some quality depth with Malik Foreman returning from a solid spring and Justin Martin enrolling this summer.
