6. RB John Kelly
Kelly doesn’t have the star power that some of the other newcomers do. When it comes to position of need, however, he’s heading to the right spot. The Vols have just two scholarship running backs currently on campus, so help is needed in a big way. Kelly, a three-star prospect from Oak Park, Mich., spurned the in-state schools to help the Vols add some depth to a thin group of RBs.
The coaches loved his athleticism in high school and hope he’ll be ready for some immediate work. The Vols hope they don’t have to rely on him too much because that likely will mean Jalen Hurd and Alvin Kamara are staying healthy, but Butch Jones has called the SEC a three-back league before and the Vols will need to find that third option.
