1. DT Kahlil McKenzie
Ranked as high as the No. 1 overall player in the nation during the 2015 recruiting cycle, McKenzie is viewed as a can’t-miss type prospect who has enormous potential to make an early impact. The Vols return a pair of experienced veterans in Danny O’Brien and Owen Williams at defensive tackle and also saw some great things from Kendal Vickers and early enrolled Shy Tuttle this spring. So there’s not an alarming need at the position.
But McKenzie is the caliber of player that will make his presence felt, regardless of what the depth chart looks like. Whether or not he’s officially a game one starter is somewhat irrelevant. All signs point to him being in the rotation in some capacity and playing a big role for this team.
