9. DB Micah Abernathy
The second Abernathy to play for Jones (with the other, Ralph David Abernathy IV expected to join the team as a graduate transfer this summer), Micah Abernathy is an athletic defensive back that gives the Vols some depth and flexibility in the secondary.
With just three true scholarship cornerbacks currently on the roster (Cam Sutton, Emmanuel Moseley, Malik Foreman), Abernathy joins Martin and fellow signee Darrell Miller as candidates to compete for playing time and to fill out the two-deep as well. He can play several places – corner, nickel, safety, return game and even played a ton of running back in high school. The Vols will likely find a way to use his athleticism in some capacity in 2015, be it special teams or otherwise.
