How The UT Undrafted Free Agents Fit In

3. Jordan Williams – New York Jets

Jordan Williams-1-2

Current defensive linemen on the Jets’ roster:

Muhammad Wilkerson
Stephen Bowen
Ikemefuna Ememkpali
Ronald Talley
Damon Harrison
T.J. Barnes
Leger Douzable
Sheldon Richardson
Kevin Vickerson
Leonard Williams (First-Round Draft Pick)
Deon Simon (Seventh-Round Draft Pick)

Outlook: New Jets head coach Todd Bowles is known for his versatile defense. It’s essentially a base 3-4, but he’s been known to throw out 4-3 looks and uses a lot of nickel and dime packages as well. There’s a good chance the Jets targeted Williams – who was one of the most versatile players on UT’s roster over the past few years – as a guy who could come in and give them some options up front. The Jets have some big names on the defensive line such as Wilkerson, Richardson and now Leonard Williams as well. But teams generally keep eight or nine defensive linemen, and it’s reasonable to think that Jordan Williams can at least be in the conversation.

Odds: I actually like the fit pretty well. He’ll be battling against other reserves similar to his size (6-4, 290) and skill set such as Douzable, Talley and Ememkpali. It’s hard to say the odds are ever good for a UFA, but I think Williams found a good spot for what he can do.
