How The UT Undrafted Free Agents Fit In

1. Justin Coleman – Minnesota Vikings

Justin Coleman-1

Current CBs on Minnesota’s roster:

Xavier Rhodes
Captain Munnerlyn
Trae Waynes (1st Round Pick)
Terence Newman
Shaun Prater
Jalil Carter
Jabari Price
Marcus Shereis
DeMarcus Van Dyke

Outlook: Coleman will have some stiff competition in Minnesota at cornerback. Rhodes and Munnerlyn are returning starters, while the Vikes invested a top pick in Waynes and spent a couple million this offseason on the veteran Newman to upgrade the secondary. It’s hard to see any of them not making the team. That leaves Coleman to battle with the others, several of which have starting experience at some point in their career, for a roster spot. Teams generally keep around five corners on the roster, so the competition will be fierce there. Coleman will have to prove he’s a better (and cheaper) option by making some big plays in camp and shining on special teams.

Odds: Not great, honestly. Despite being the most likely Vol to be drafted, this depth chart doesn’t look real favorable at this point. But teams are always looking to get younger, more athletic and to save money where they can, so if he has a good camp, perhaps he steals a spot or at least settles in on the practice squad.
