Offensive Line
Daniel: All-in-all, decent day for this group, which had the challenge of protecting quarterbacks that could be sacked by simply being touched. It gave up five total sacks, but clearly all five of them wouldn’t have happened in truly live action. There were some lanes in the running game, though a few negative plays ate into the final stats. It’s a group that’s about where I thought it would be. It’s not looking like a top-tier SEC bunch, but I think it’s progressed enough to avoid being the liability that it was in 2014, and it should only get better with newcomers and the return of Marcus Jackson this fall. Grade: B
Houston: I’d say it was an ‘okay’ day from this group. There wasn’t a ton of consistent push up front, but they were able to create some lanes here and there. It’s also going to crush you rushing numbers and yards-per-carry average when Joshua Dobbs isn’t allowed to run. Pass protection was actually pretty good all day, with two of the three sacks coming against Dobbs, who could have easily avoided the pressure had he been allowed to run. The offense still averaged almost four yards per carry and 5.3 yards per play. Grade: B
