8. History not on their side
For the Vols to get to even eight wins (and certainly anything beyond that) it’s likely going to mean they have to overcome some poor recent history against opponents. Four teams on the schedule – Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Missouri – have at least a three-game winning streak against the Vols currently. 2009 was the last season that the Vols had a win against any of those teams, and the losing streaks against Alabama and Florida have ballooned to eight and 10 games respectively.
And with Oklahoma coming to town, that serves as a reminder that the Vols have only defeated one Power 5 conference foe in non-conference regular-season play in the last nine years (NC State, 2012).
