5. No experienced punter
Not so fun fact for Tennessee: The Vols don’t have anybody on the roster who has ever punted in a collegiate game. Given, it’s not the most essential position on the field. Shank a few, get one blocked or returned due to poor execution, however, and it quickly becomes apparent that it’s not a spot that can be ignored.
The good news is that there are some quality options. Incoming freshman Tommy Townsend is highly ranked. Maryland graduate punter transfer Nathan Renfro is supposed to be coming and eligible to compete. Walk-on Trevor Daniel has done some good things in spring practice. But there are no definitive answers at this point, and this could be an area that holds an otherwise-potent special teams unit back a bit.
