10. Offensive coordinator change
Butch Jones hopes change is good with new offensive coordinator Mike DeBord taking over for Mike Bajakian. He also hopes change is minimal, citing continuity as a big factor in choosing DeBord, who he’s worked with in the past.
But there’s always risk when there’s a new play caller in town. And while this is probably one of the “safer” hires around the SEC this year because he wasn’t brought in to change a lot about the offense, there are too many examples of a coordinator hire negatively effecting a team to say that the Vols could be immune from that in 2015. Add in that DeBord hasn’t called plays or coached at the collegiate level since 2007, and there could be a rust factor as well.
