Friday Top 10: Reasons For Optimism in ’15

6. The O-line will be better

Offensive Line-1-5I’m not ready to say it will be good or even decent yet. But it has to be better than the train wreck that unfolded during portions of the 2014 season. The numbers were brutal – most notably the 43 sacks given up leading to enough lost yardage to cover the length of a football field three times over. That hurt the pride of a unit trying to fill the shoes of one of the most talented groups UT had ever seen during the 2013 season.

The names are primarily the same. But as Butch Jones love to say, “It’s a developmental position.” And the Vols are a year stronger, wiser and more familiar with each other. Throw in some talented newcomers that will add depth and push for playing time and the fact that, with Dobbs at the helm, this unit did at least appeared to look better at the end of last season, and there’s reason for optimism that this spot, at the very least, won’t drain the team like it did at times last year.
