5. Special teams

Aaron Medley-1ESPN’s Preseason College Football Power Index ranked Tennessee as having the most efficient special teams in the nation in 2014, and many of the key parts return in 2015. It starts with kicker Aaron Medley, who was one of the best true freshman kickers in the nation last year. He’ll only benefit from that experience and has a chance to climb to among the SEC’s best in 2015.

But special teams is a lot more than just kicking. Evan Berry (kickoff) and Cam Sutton (punt) might be one of the best return duos in the SEC as well. And coverage was outstanding last year. It’s the area that recruiting has helped perhaps more than anything in just a couple years.

As hard as it is to believe, the Tennessee team that got left in the dust by teams like Auburn and Florida in recent years in the third phase of the game, is heading into next year with special teams listed as a huge point of strength.
